Types of Student Profiles

Focusing The Lasers from Sean McFarland on Vimeo.

Which kind of student do you consider yourself to be? How do you feel about being a ___________ kind of student? Do you want to change categories? How might you do so?

Focusing The Lasers is a film created by Chabot College students that decided to figure out what kind of students profiles existed. The six student profiles that they saw constantly as they interviewed other students were: visitors, wanderers, explorers, seekers, dreamers, lasers. Visitors are students that come to school because it is convenient for them to attend here and are just here to chill. Wanderers are students that are lost and have no clue what they want to do. Explorers are willing to try things but their mind changes a lot. Seekers like to try things and kind of know what they want. Dreamers know what they want educationally but don't know exactly how to pursue their dream. Laser students are those who know exactly what they want and working towards making things happen. I consider myself to be a laser now. I know pretty much what I want as far as education and my major. At this very moment I'm taking GE classes. I graduated from high school six years ago and back then I think I would have been a visitor and a wanderer that's why I decided not to go to school at all and just work. I hated school and saw no point of it, but as i matured I realized the importance of it and also I clearly know what I want. I am satisfied in being a laser, because like a student in the film said she doesn't like wasting time and that's how i feel. I think in a point in life we are all all of the six student profiles.
